There are too many speculations around Liverpool transfers, as Jurgen Klopp has made only one signing – Steven Caulker on loan from QPR.
Yet another player, who has been heavily linked with the Merseysiders is Cameroon and Schalke 04 centre-half Joel Matip. However it’s less likely that the ‘Defensive Rock’ will join the Reds in coming hours, as Klopp already made his choice by signing Caulker, thus Matip’s contract expires in July 2016 and Anfield club can sign him without paying a penny.
Here are the reasons why Matip could be useful for Liverpool:
- Cameroon international is 6ft4 and won 72,73 % of his arial duels. (That’s one of the major problem for the Reds since Sami Hyypia’s departure)
- Matip can score and make assists – he has had a hand in six goals in 19 Bundeliga appearances this season.
- The 24-year-old can play as a defensive midfielder as well, thus he’s got better defensive stats this season than Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel.
Matip – Skrtel
Tackles won: 21 – 16
Interceptions: 59 – 38
