NYCFC captain discusses progress of the team


MLS League giants New York City FC captain David Villa enters his second season with the club having and now he is learning a new system under head coach Patrick Vieira.

“Patrick wants the team to play well and play forward and create a lot of chances,” an English speaking Villa said during a conference call Thursday afternoon. “We’ve a lot of time until the start of the season and we work a lot toward creating an identity for our play. I’m very happy for the new coaches and the new players. I think this squad is better than last year.”

Vieira has the different view of the the football than previous head coach Jason Kreis and planning to change the tactic of the team. In NYCFC’s first friendly against Florida Gulf Coast University, the team played a 4-3-3. For its upcoming friendlies beginning tomorrow against USL side Oklahoma City Energy, the team may experiment with a 3-4-3. Villa said this formation can work with the team’s current squad.
