According to the Spanish publication Fichajes, Celta Vigo are interested in signing Manchester United’s out-of-favour goalkeeper Victor Valdes at the end of the season. The ex-Barcelona man joined the club in January last year on an 18-month contract and even made two appearances towards the end of last season, but things have turned sour between the player and manager Louis van Gaal.
On 23 January 2016, the Red Devils announced that Valdés would be moving to Belgian club Standard Liège on a six-month loan deal. The World Cup winner made two league appearances for Standard this season and conceded 12 goals, but managed to add one more title in his name and won Belgian cup.
However it appears almost certain that Valdes will leave the English club in the summer window and Celta, who are currently fifth in the La Liga table and confident that Valdes remains a top goalkeeper and are ready to take a gamble on the 33-year-old.
The goalkeeper is out of contract at United this summer and the Reds’ clearly won’t extend the deal, having two highly-rated stoppers David de Gea and Sergio Romero in the squad.
It’s widely believed that Celta will try to loan the 20-year-old stopper Ruben Blanco in the summer and move for experienced stopper like Valdes, as back-up of No.1 choice Sergio Alvarez is sensible. Valdes could be eager to return in Spain, as he’s not the first choice in Belgian club. Moreover, Celta will probably offer him Europe League football next season.
