Liverpool have their eyes on an astounding £20m fee for 26-year-old

Liverpool are demanding £20 million for defender Mamadou Sakho, SkySports report.

This is despite the centre-back’s lack of first team football this season, with the Frenchman falling out of favour under Jurgen Klopp.

Spanish side Sevilla are reportedly interested in the defender, and the Reds have told them their valuation.

In recent weeks Sakho has been playing for the club’s under-23 side, and is not under consideration for Premier League action.

Sakho missed the end of last season when he was suspended by UEFA, but the real career blow came in the summer when he was sent home from Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the US, with manager Jurgen Klopp unimpressed with his attitude.

This is what makes the £20 million Liverpool are demanding astounding, should they manage to get it.

Sakho has not played a first team game since early April 2016, and his transfer value should be reflective of this.

“The situation is clear. At this moment there is no reason to talk (to him),” Klopp recently revealed when asked about Frenchman.

If several teams are interested then of course the Reds are entitled to push the price up and try and create a market for the international standard defender, but if they get it, Liverpool may be pulling off one of the best deals of the transfer window.
