Liverpool are set to make a shock January move to try to land Arsenal play-maker Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The Anfield boss been given £40million to improve his squad this transfer window and has been linked with numerous moves to boost his Premier League title bid.
Having seemingly missed out on Borussia Dortmund flyer Christian Pulisic and a bid for Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brand likely to wait until the summer, Klopp has turned his attention to Oxlade-Chamberlain, according to Bild (via TEAMtalk).
The England international has been unable to nail down a regular first-team spot at Arsenal – alerting clubs to his current situation at the Emirates Stadium.
Links between Liverpool and the 23-year-old first surfaced in December, but at the time Klopp branded those reports as ‘nonsense’.
Yet, reports in his native Germany are still claiming that the Reds boss is hoping to tempt the youngster to move to the north-west.
Bild have stated that the England international has emerged as Klopp’s surprise choice to become one of the club’s January reinforcements. The player himself is becoming increasingly frustrated at his lack of a starting place at The Emirates and the journal suggests that Klopp will pounce this month and prize him away from the capital.
The costs involved in any such move are not known at this time but speculation suggests that The Gunners would not be willing to part with their player for anything less than around £35 million. Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Arsenal from Southampton in 2011 and has now made over 100 appearances for the club. He’s also earned 24 England caps but this season has seen him cut a frustrated figure on the bench and a switch could now be imminent.
