Everton have been making moves to sign Ajax Amsterdam’s Hakim Ziyech and Liverpool could frustrate their Merseyside rivals and make a £13 million bid.
A large factor behind Liverpool’s prominence this season has been the excellence of key midfielders in Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana and Georginio Wijnaldum. When either of those three have been missing, more often than not things haven’t gone to plan.
Until his impressive, albeit rather dirty display against Arsenal, Emre Can has looked rather poor this season prompting suggestions from supporters that he should be sold. This is unlikely given his considerable potential and the fact that Jürgen Klopp clearly believes he has a place at Liverpool in the future.
That being said, with the possibility of there being Champions League football at Anfield next season, Klopp will certainly be signing more players this summer and a new central midfielder is all but guaranteed.
According to Dutch outlet SoccerNews, Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech may well be on his way to England in the summer but only if Philippe Coutinho leaves.
Philippe Coutinho has expressed his passion for Liverpool and said that his family is happy on Merseyside but there is a growing feeling that if the Reds fail to secure Champions League football he might be lured away by a club like Barcelona, Real Madrid or even Paris-Saint Germain.
We’ll deal with that if and when we need to.
Back to Ziyech.
Liverpool aren’t the only Merseyside club interested in signing the midfielder as Everton are reported as being keen on the Moroccan. Swansea, Southampton, Sunderland and Crystal Palace are also interested after Ziyech has put in some glittering performances for Ajax since signing in 2016.
There have also been reports of Liverpool being interested in signing Red Bull Leipzig’s Naby Keita which represents a real upgrade on the personnel currently at the club. Liverpool would almost certainly need to qualify for the Champions League to be in the running to sign him.
This summer is going to be interesting, to say the least.
