Liverpool are set to rival Bayern Munich, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and a host of European clubs in the summer pursuit of Las Palmas anchorman Roque Mesa, according to Marca
The 27-year-old has been with UD Las Palmas for an over six years now, having moved from CD Tenerife in July 2010 on a free transfer. And, in his long career with Las Palmas, he has become an indelible part of the football club’s first-team setup.
In 34 appearances last season, Spaniard impressed in front of the Las Palmas back four, with the diminutive midfielder showing great defensive ability, passing range and superb stamina.
Along with Liverpool, Arsenal and Leicester City were also linked with Mesa, before the January transfer window. But, the duo have since not been mentioned in the same breath as the player.
Considering his ball-winning abilities move to Merseyside makes the most sense; Mesa has the energy that Jurgen Klopp desires, and he needs depth in midfield behind Jordan Henderson, especially with question marks over Emre Can’s long-term future.
He is also very comfortable in possession, averaging more successful passes per 90 minutes (76.3) than every Reds player apart from Henderson (87.4). Mesa has completed 91.5 percent of his attempted passes in Spain’s top flight.
The right-footed DMF reportedly has a release clause of €30million (£26 million) in his current contract with Los Amarillos, making their willingness to sell more confusing.
