Liverpool and Manchester City locked in £25m summer transfer battle

Left-back is obviously an area in which we need to seriously improve our options this summer but it certainly seems we’re not the only side with that on their shopping list.

Indeed, full-backs are in vogue at the moment in terms of them being able to get forward and add to attacks as well as performing their usual defensive duties.

Needing a new one, then, is something we’re familiar with this season and it appears as though Ryan Bertrand is being linked with ESPNFC suggesting as such.

Even so, it also seems that Manchester City are interested in the England international and so there could be quite the battle for his signature if he does become available for a move.

Since leaving west London, Bertrand has established himself as one of the finest left-backs in the Premier League and was selected by former team-mate Frank Lampard in his team of 2016-17, per Sky Sports MNF:

His Premier League return in 2016-17 of one goal and four assists in 19 appearances is proof of his effectiveness as an attacking, as well as defensive, force, per WhoScored.com.

His current Saints contract runs to 2021, and the south-coast club value him at over £25 million.

Certainly, though, we’d be happy to see him in a red shirt come the new season.
