£52m: Klopp intend to ruin Mourinho’s season by signing key Man Utd target

Liverpool are ready to try and entice James Rodriguez to Anfield with a reported £52m bid for the out-of-favour Real Madrid star.

The Colombia international’s future at the Bernabeu has been the subject of much discussion over the past 12 months, and Spanish news outlet Don Balon has claimed that Jurgen Klopp is ready to ignite a fierce battle among his would-be suitors to land Rodriguez ahead of them.

Liverpool are the only club so far that are allegedly willing to meet Rodriguez’s 60m euro releae clause fee out of those clubs interested in signing the 25-year-old, but it is still up for debate as to whether the Reds will be successful in luring him to Merseyside.

Klopp views the playmaker as an ideal addition to his attacking options at Liverpool and, after the German hinted that the Reds were ready to spend big in this summer’s transfer market, seems set to put his money where his mouth is.

However, the former Borussia Dortmund boss will face plenty of resistance in his bid to prise the ex-Monaco star away from Spain’s capital, with a number of other top European clubs interested in his signature.

Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, Serie A outfit AC Milan and Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are all believed to chasing Rodriguez, but it is Liverpool’s north-west rivals in Manchester United who could throw the biggest spanner in the works.

Rodriguez is thought to harbour ambitions of playing under Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford and would, therefore, favour a move to Liverpool’s bitter rivals if the choice to move came down to the two Premier League heavyweights.

Rodriguez suffered Champions League heartbreak when he was left out of Zinedine Zidane’s 18-man matchday squad for last Saturday’s victory over Juventus in the final – a decision that meant he missed out on a winner’s medal – and this latest setback may prove to be the straw that broke the camel’s back in his career at the club.

The attacking midfielder appeared to bid farewell to Real’s fanbase in the final league fixture of this season as he was withdrawn from the pitch on the hour mark in the 4-1 triumph over Sevilla on 14th May, and his future with Los Blancos is now under greater threat with these newsest batch of rumours.
